Torchon Runner designed and worked by Madge Carey.

I started last summer to try to put together a pattern as I could not find one that inspired me. The table was over 2 meters long so I knew I had a lot of lace making to do once I got to that stage so it had to be simple and on quite a big scale or I would never get it finished. As this was the first time I had tried to make up my own pattern it took a lot of tries before I had a pattern that I liked. I had decided to make it in colour if I could, but I then had some trouble finding a thread. I ended up with Gutermann Sulky 30 which I found by chance in a general needlework shop in Canterbury and brought a single reel. After making a small sample to confirm that it was suitable I had to find somewhere to source enough for the runner – thankfully Google came up with a shop in Birmingham who supplied the thread required by post. I started making it in October 2010 and finished in March 2011.
