The Alban Lacemakers was formed in 1983 with the aim of keeping in contact with other lacemakers in the area.
We now have around 60 members and meet monthly (except August) at Marshalswick Community Centre.
Visitors are always welcome at our meetings where we have a variety of speakers on lace-related and other topics.
Once or twice a year we have a members evening, when members enjoy “taster” sessions of other crafts; a lace related quiz; or “pillow and chat” which as its name suggests is an opportunity to make lace and catch up with friends.
We also hold weekend workshops where members can enjoy tuition from teachers expert in Honiton, Bedfordshire and Brugge laces and other crafts such as Beadwork, Hardanger work and making Christmas gifts and decorations.
Members have also regularly demonstrated our craft at The Living Crafts Exhibition at Hatfield House, the Flower Festival at St Albans Cathedral, The Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace and school fairs and church flower festivals locally.
There are Local Authority Classes in Bobbin Lace and some privately run classes.
